Deepika Bagaria interviews Somesh for

  1. Your Birthday –
    19th October
  2. Your first break in the music scene –
Performed a Chhota Khayal in Raga Durga at the age of 4 years, for O.N.G.C.’s annual festival. First ever Professional Concert was at the Sangeet Research Academy {SRA}, Calcutta, in front of Maestros of Indian Classical Music, at the age of 19 years.
  3. You have been in the industry for a long time but have not gained as much commercial fame as other non-film artists. What do you attribute this to? –
I am told by fans and well wishers that my music has been ahead of its time. But now by HIS Divine Grace and a certain company called ARTISTALOUD.COM, time has caught up with my music and the whole world will embrace it.
  4. Your last big project was with Asha Bhosle. Is it easier to compose for others or for oneself? –
Whilst composing for some one else, one has to be OBJECTIVE. Composing for oneself is a conversation with ones soul.
  5. You are one of the few classical artists who seems to blend western with Indian very beautifully. How do you manage that? Is it easier having a classical background? -
Since childhood I have had two parallel upbringings in music. On the one hand, in Hindustani Classical Music and Waltz because of my parents {also my Gurus and great Ballroom dancers} and on the other, in Rock n Roll and Broadway because of my sister and cousins. So both the forms of music come naturally to me and there is never any confusion or chaos in my mind, as to the blending of the two.
  6. Why have you taken the digital approach? –
It is the medium which is the ‘present’ and the ‘future’.
  7. Can you say a few words about each of the songs you have on board –
Woh Aankh – The Lounge New Rendition: Composed in the mood of Raga Bhairvi, the song is written {lyrics} by legendary poet, the late Jaan Nisaar Akhtar {father of Javed Akhtar}. The melody has a strong hook line and the lyrics have a message of romance, flirtatiousness and philosophy. The rendition caresses the mood of Raga Bhairvi {without any adultration}, taking the listener on a roller coaster ride of colourful notes, and is set to a rather ‘foot – tapping’ groove………...Enjoy!!!!!!
Kya Kaam Kiya Humne – The Blues New Rendition: Is an out & out Blues song {groove & lyrics}, set to a jazz - blues harmonic progression. Written {lyrics} by one of the great 18th century ustads of urdu poetry, the late Mir Taqi Mir, the song has inspiring arrangements of Blues Guitar and Trumpet, with choir - like female backing vocals. A beautiful song for a romantic date…………. Enjoy!!!!!!!
Dil Ke Haathon – The Rock New Rendition: A country - pop - rock song, written {lyrics} by Yours truly. A song for outdoors; meadows; etc…. Composed in a ‘sing – along’ melody and set to a ‘clap - along’ groove, this song takes the fancy of all aspirants. Beautifully arranged using guitars, piano, etc, this song is definitely a college students’ candidate………….. Enjoy!!!!!!
Allah Ne Yeh Farmaya Hai – The Sufi New Rendition: Sufi lyrics written by Neha Bhasin, Gumrah Qainati and Yours truly, this song grows on the listener. Unique in sound and presentation, the beautiful melody is in the mood of Raga Raageshri and is very ‘sing - along’. With a formidable hook / chorus line and an ustadi gayaki, the song is arranged & produced to catch the listener unawares. Creates a rather romantic - mystical - spiritual mood………….. Enjoy!!!!!
